OVERVIEW

 

The mission of the 1947 Foundation Inc is to provide resources and services to a coalition of community-based partners in order to help eradicate systemic social and educational deficiencies in the city of Hampton Virginia and surrounding areas.

 

The 1947 Foundation's specific contribution will be to acquire a building and provide volunteer manpower and facility resources to assist with carrying out the following services, initiatives, and programs offered by our partners:

 

Fatherhood Initiative (Time allocated = 20%) - Improves the social and health outcomes of children through father involvement. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and Zeta Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.

 

Mentoring Programs (Time allocated = 20%) - Seeks to change the lives of children in the community facing adversity for the better, forever. Their mentors work with children in the community, in their schools, on military bases, and many places in between. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and the Zeta Omicron and Gamma Epsilon Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.

 

Social Action Programs (Time allocated = 20%) - Provides financial assistance and promotes academic excellence among youth. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and the Zeta Omicron and Gamma Epsilon Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.

 

Achievement week Program (Time allocated = 10%) - Observed every November and is designed to duly recognize individuals at the local level who have made a noteworthy contribution to improve the quality of life for their communities. A High School Essay Contest is held in conjunction with Achievement Week for all college-bound seniors. College scholarships are awarded to the winners, each of whom must submit an essay on a theme/topic chosen by the program committee members. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and the Zeta Omicron and Gamma Epsilon Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.

 

Talent Hunt Program (Time allocated = 10%) - Provides exposure, encouragement and financial assistance to talented young people participating in Performing Arts. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and Zeta Omicron and Gamma Epsilon Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.

 

Community Based Recreational Programs (Time allocated = 20%) - Various recreational programs that provide activities for families within our under-served communities. We will be partnering with the Hampton Omega Foundation, and the Zeta Omicron and Gamma Epsilon Chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by providing facility space and resources.
